There comes a point in everyone’s career when it’s time to retire – and it’s earlier than most for those who play sports. However, sporting legends don’t have to worry about being bored for the rest of their lives, as there will be plenty of opportunities once they retire. Coaching is just one of them, so let’s see who has stepped up to the plate.

Lenny Wilkens

This basketball legend earned the honor of making it into the Hall of Fame not once, not twice, but a whopping three times. Once as a player, once as a coach, and then again as part of the 1992 Dream Team coaching staff. He held the most victories as a basketball coach until 2010 and was a nine-time All Star on the court.

Joe Torre

From being a National League MVP in 1971 to becoming a living legend when he took over the Yankees in 1996, Joe Torre has more than earned his place on the list of one of the best coaches in the world. His four World Series win titles in five years and Hall of Fame status made him a real asset to the MLB world.

Phil Jackson

When it comes to NBA coaches, no one has ever won more championships than Phil Jackson with a total of 11! He’s had the pleasure of coaching sporting legends such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O’Neal, but we can’t forget how good he was on the court before that. He became a tough one to beat both on and off the court.

These sporting legends have proven that they didn’t lose their A-Game once they stepped off the field. We just wonder if anyone could ever live up to the prowess of these players turned coaches.

We spend a good amount of our lives learning, and then reacting to what we’ve learned. Sometimes, though, what we feel to be 100% true actually turns out to be 100% false. This can lead to some pretty embarrassing moments that will have your friends and family laughing harder than they may have ever laughed before. For example, here are some people that chose to share obvious facts that they didn’t learn until well into their adulthood. We hope you’re prepared to laugh!

As you grow up, there are a lot of things to learn when it comes to biology and science as a whole. But, due to your creative imagination, you come up with a lot of wacky ideas about how things work. This includes how your hair grows!

Still, when you believe that your hair grows from the ends into the scalp as opposed from the scalp to the ends at the age of 13, we can understand why you might find learning the truth a little hard.

There’s nothing like a nice sweet cupcake to celebrate anything in life. In fact, most kids enjoy a good cupcake even when there isn’t something to celebrate — no matter the size, shape, or even flavor!

And while we can somewhat sympathize with this poster, we’re also sure that a teenager wandering up and down the aisles asking for cupcake mix was probably a little strange. We can only imagine the horror on this OP’s face when the grocery store employee handed them a box of regular cake mix.

Disney was a big part of a lot of people’s lives. And though the logo has changed a bit over the decades, one thing remains the same — the text attached to the logo. But many people have been confused for years about the D and why it was formed like that.

In fact, many people always thought that that was a backward G instead of a D. And some of those individuals thought this well into their young adulthood.

There’s a wide range of allergies ranging from environmental to food. Many people go throughout their lives not really knowing they’re allergic to a particular thing, not only because they don’t eat it or come into contact with it but because it was a minor allergy.

This person learned that they were allergic to apples after living years without knowing. Yeah… it’s not really normal for your throat to close up after eating a fruit.

When you’re looking at a shortened version of anything, unless you’re in the know, you can make it mean a plethora of different things. Take, for instance, the EST. like in this sign.

Apparently, it took quite a few decades for this person to learn that that wasn’t estimated shortened down; it actually meant that the company was established in that year. We’re sure when their partner had to inform them of this, they were a little ashamed.

At some point in our lives, every one of us has recited the ‘if the woodchuck could chuck wood’ tongue twister. Not only is it fun, but it helps with pronunciation! Still, how many people knew that groundhogs and woodchucks are the same animals?

This may seem obvious when you see a picture of them. But, when you’re talking about them, it definitely seems like they are two different animals. So, we think everyone should give this person a little break when it comes to knowing this fact.

As kids, we often learn people’s names after they’ve been shortened down. Because we haven’t been exposed to as many people, we don’t know what those shortened-down versions mean. So, this kid was screening calls for his aunt without even knowing it.

The fact that this kid thought his aunt’s name was Kristopher is so cute. And it gets even cuter when you realize he was hanging up on people that wanted to talk to her — just because of this misunderstanding!

Many people try to live a better life by playing the lottery. There’s a wide range of lotteries around the world. And understanding how they work or how they’re funded is not something that most kids pay a lot of attention to.

So, the fact that this kid didn’t understand that the lottery was a fundraiser should be understood by all of us. Don’t you think?

Leather is made from the hides of cows. When you buy a leather jacket, it doesn’t have any fur on it unless, of course, it’s suede. So, it’s easy to understand why kids wouldn’t know that a cow actually has fur.

But, a 21-year-old not understanding that concept could be pretty embarrassing — not only for their friends and family but also for themselves. At least they know now, though!

It can be pretty confusing when two things are named the same thing. And with that, there are times when this confusion could lead to some pretty embarrassing moments for the individual.

Thinking, for instance, that The Rolling Stones were reviewing everything as opposed to the magazine seems like an example of someone not thinking through logically their thoughts. Then again, maybe Mick is out there watching movies and reading books as well as listening to music and giving his opinion. Ha!

Sometimes our misconceptions of knowledge come from our parents trying to instill practices that are meant for our safety. This person’s parents wanted them to make sure they were always buckling up. And so, for years, used this little piece of information as a way to get that done.

Thinking that you have to buckle your seat belt before the car starts seems like actually a good idea for car manufacturers to consider. Maybe this mom was ahead of her time!

Sometimes when you learn about creatures and their names, they just naturally sound like they are made up out of an author’s imagination. This is definitely understandable, and some of them actually were created.

However, the axolotl is not one of them. Still, we can definitely understand even by looking at a picture why this person thought that this was a made-up creature for so long.

As the months get colder, you get closer to that wonderful time of the year — Christmas. With Christmas comes all kinds of fantastical stories and wonderful imagery, including that of the reindeer.

Many people, never being in an area where they could actually see a real reindeer, felt that these were made-up creatures. But, surprisingly, this person eventually learned that they are actually real and quite beautiful.

Classical music can be a wonderful inspiration when you’re sitting down for a creative exercise or just simply to relax. Many people enjoy it, and that’s why streaming services are such a great thing.

But thinking that you can find real recordings from 18th-century classical composers seems like a really embarrassing situation. You can definitely find the music but falling upon a recording of the very original is impossible, and we’re glad this OP finally figured that out.

The movies have made people think a lot of things over the years — from your face freezing funny if you make faces at people to there being a special chemical that changes color when you pee in the pool, to name a few.

But the truth is neither of those two things is true, and we’re glad that this guy finally figured that out.

Heading to an island for a getaway is a nice way to spend your vacation. You can get a little sun or enjoy the nature of whatever island you’re on — unless they move, that is, which is what would happen if they were not attached to the seafloor.

This person thought just that and probably was pretty embarrassed when someone actually corrected them.

There are a lot of wives’ tales when it comes to gum. For instance, for years, most of us probably believed if you swallowed gum, it stayed in your stomach for seven years — or maybe that the gum would stick to your ribs as this person thought.

Of course, once they were old enough to understand the way the body is built, they finally figured out this is not even possible.

When it comes to washing dishes, soap is soap, right!? That might be true. But it depends on how you’re planning to wash those dishes. That’s something this person learned the hard way after using dish soap in the dishwasher.

When you do what this person did, you wind up with a lot of extra suds and a chance to mop your kitchen because these suds escape the dishwasher.

Kids have one heck of an imagination and they use it to solve different issues they come across. This can extend to bodily processes like using the restroom. This kid actually had a pretty interesting idea when it came to this.

The idea seems like a well-thought-out one. But, when they finally talked with someone about their idea, they were probably embarrassed and a little grossed out to find out the truth.

Looking at a pony, it’s an easy and very understandable leap to assume they are nothing more than a baby horse. After all, they look similar, right? But, this person was shocked to find out after four decades of living that was not the truth.

A baby horse is actually called a foal. Ponies are their own equine species and super stinking adorable! In fact, we’re sure that just by looking at one, many people will consider getting one as a pet!

Pepperoni is the most popular meat topping in the world, we would imagine. But, not knowing that it’s meat could be hard for some people. This is especially the case when you’re talking about someone from Italy.

Their pepperoni typically means peppers — and so, it’s easy to see why this person was unaware of what category of food the pizza topping fell under. No one wants an all pepper pizza, right!?

There are many classic songs for the holidays, and some leave an indelible mark on kids. Maybe one of the biggest is the song, “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.” In fact, this song may have scared a lot of kids.

It’s sort of funny, though, that it took this kid so long to realize that it was about a dad dressing up as Santa Claus and kissing his mom. It’s not about a mom cheating with Santa Claus!

Maybe you’ve heard that that little extra white part in your eggs was the spear of the rooster, and that’s why many people think eating eggs is like eating a baby chick — hence why some individuals have issues eating eggs.

But that’s not the truth as the eggs sold in stores aren’t fertilized. It’s just too bad it took this person so long to figure that out.

Having a nice crisp pickle on your juicy burger is a must for a lot of people. But, that pickle didn’t start out as a pickle. In fact, it started life off as a crisp cucumber that one might put in their salad.

Sadly, it took this person so long to learn this fact. Now, he’ll be able to make sure he can get a pickle even if he doesn’t have a jar as long as he has a cucumber in the house.

Reindeers are real; that’s something we all have either known or have recently learned. But, did you know they couldn’t fly? They are simple but beautiful land mammals that are icons of the holiday season.

For years, this person believed that reindeers could fly. It was probably pretty disappointing to find out that they’re not able to. How sad is that!

For those that suffer from lactose intolerance or have a personal feeling about milk, there are many other options, including almond milk. Because it’s an alternative, though, it should be pretty evident that it does not contain milk.

Once this person learned that almond milk is just almonds and water, they probably felt a little embarrassed when this info found its way to them.

Sometimes a kid’s imagination makes for the greatest stories and explanations for things. For instance, this kid who thought that the cricket making all the noise outside was actually the stars twinkling.

It almost seems sad to us that this kid learns the truth about the musical insects as opposed to being able to keep their beautiful story in their head. We think they should use this misunderstanding of the world as a basis for some sort of kids’ story.

If you’re a kid of the ’80s and ’90s, then it’s probably pretty likely that you at least saw the animated classic, Don Bluth’s The Secret of NIMH, at least once in your life. It’s also probably true that none of those that saw it actually thought that the evil NIMH in the story was real.

So, it was probably pretty strange when this kid found out that NIMH stood for the National Institute of Mental Health, a very real institution.

One of the most beloved characters in the world is Muppet character Kermit T. Frog. Though most of us probably thought that the T in this Muppet’s name stood for ‘the.’ It turns out that not everybody understood this at first.

It might have been pretty shocking to many people that this 30-year-old person didn’t know that was what the initial stood for. But, just like it’s OK being green, it’s OK that this person was a little oblivious.

The sun is a giant part of our sky and so, it might be hard for some to believe that it’s actually a star and not a planet. At some point during science class, this is covered. So, the fact that this person didn’t learn it till college seems like it’s more of a question about the educational system than their intelligence.

At least they have an understanding friend who’s willing to give them a crash course in astronomy and the solar system without too much judgment.

When you were a kid and were running around the kitchen, you may have heard your mother or even grandmother tell you that you needed to be careful because the vibrations could cause cakes in the oven to fall.

So, when you’re older and trying to bake, you may utter those same words to other people. This person did that and got a crazy look because there are very few things that actually can fall when in the oven.

Sometimes when you’re not always able to see something, you may believe that it’s either in hibernation or flies someplace else during certain parts of the year. That’s what happened to this person from the UK that thought robins, which is a common Christmastime icon, actually spent time in hibernation.

In fact, they actually saw robins all the time, they just didn’t realize it — and so, it took someone pointing it out for them to realize they were wrong.

The whole ‘turn your head and cough’ aspect of a visit to the doctor has been in tons of movies and used in comedy sketches many times. But, many people don’t know why that phrase even came into being. And so, we have to give this person a little bit of a break.

In fact, it’s kind of common sense when you think about it — turning your head so you don’t cough in your doctor’s face. But, for most of us, we probably thought it had to do with something else.

By the time we’re in our late teens or early 20s, most of us have had a run-in with some sort of electrical shock. A lot of the time, our parents have taught us that you shouldn’t put metal in things that are run on electricity.

Apparently, this person did not get that lesson and was forced to learn it at the hands of his girlfriend. We’re sure she probably held this over him for a little bit.

As a plot point in many movies, most of us know about the black market. This is a place where illegal goods are sold between potentially criminal organizations. As a kid, one might expect this black market to be an actual brick-and-mortar location.

Eventually, though, someone will have to tell them that the black market is not like a store you can drive up to and browse in.

We’re sure that many people out there probably have thought this way as well. After all, what are those little things that dangle in the back of our throats? It seems like it’s shaped like what a tonsil would be shaped like.

In fact, the thing that dangles in the back of the throat is not your tonsils. Your tonsils are actually housed behind your uvula and they’re shaped very differently. How many of you thought the same thing?

Sometimes when you hear names, if they’re similar or exactly the same, you might think that they are the same person. However, it’s hard for us to understand how someone could confuse Martin Luther, a man who lived centuries ago, with Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Though the first two names are the same, there’s actually more to one name. And they are very different when it comes to their appearance.

When people are naming products, sometimes they name them exactly for what they do. That’s what happened when the person invented the space heater. Unfortunately, that name can be taken in a couple of different ways. And in this OP’s case, it was taken the wrong way.

Many old space heaters do look like something that could have been created and sent back in time from the future. But, in fact, this person learned that it’s really called a space heater because it heats up the space in your home.

So, for those in the media industry, understanding how to say a name or pronounce a place is super important. The fact that this kid watched a news show where they called Malcolm X ‘Malcolm the 10th’ seems a little unprofessional.

We just hope that, when this kid heard that news anchor call this important historical figure by the wrong name, he didn’t take it with him for years to come.

Sometimes plants can do amazing things. That includes being in two different forms with the same root. Plants like the dandelion often have this happen, with one stem being the perfectly bright yellow flower and the other being the white puffball.

Looking at them, it’s easy to see why this person didn’t know that they were the same plant. But, the fact they had to learn this in college is a little messed up nonetheless.

Most of us have played with those colorful pipe cleaners to make fun, creative art pieces while doing arts and crafts at school. But, that’s not exactly what they were meant for.

This person didn’t learn that until they took a little trip to the store and saw the same product being sold there. It was probably pretty embarrassing to have this worker in the store explain to them why they were selling the arts and craft product.

Sometimes words can be pronounced the same but spelled differently, and this can lead to a little confusion for some people. So, when this person learned that guerrilla wars were being fought, they automatically assumed this meant the animals.

It wasn’t till much later that they learned that the two terms were not the same — and that there weren’t troops of gorillas fighting the Vietnam War.

Most of us have spent plenty of time in front of the television watching the crazy antics of that super-fast bird — Road Runner — and Wile E. Coyote.

But, there are some out there that didn’t realize that roadrunners are actually real. We’re sure this guy was a little embarrassed when, at the age of 40, learned that roadrunners are real-life birds.

When you see pictures of beautiful coral reefs in the ocean, you automatically assume that these are undersea plants. It may be easy to do this because they have leafy protrusions and are often homes to fish.

But coral is a living entity and actually an animal, not a plant. It’s important to know this, especially since many of these reefs are actually in danger.

When you hear people talk about Brazil, you often hear about the colonization of it by Portugal and the fact that it’s one of the few South American countries that have Portuguese as the national language.

So, it’s easy to see how this person naturally built a connection between the two. But, the fact that they thought that Portugal was next to Brazil is a serious educational issue.
